In 1460, James II of Scotland took advantage of the Wars of the Roses to besiege Roxburgh Castle, one of the last Scottish castles that still remained in English hands after the Wars of Scottish Independence. During the siege, he was standing near a cannon known as "the Lion", which exploded and killed him.

What if the cannon hadn't exploded?

What's the timeline re: James death and Margaret of Anjou's time in Scotland? Could a longer-lived James change things there?

It is an interesting question.

What a Scotland with an adult king, secure on his throne, would have done as the English tore themselves apart is certainly worth considering. The Lion taking the top of James' head off rather stopped any Caledonian machinations in their tracks.

I imagine we might see a better raised James III here, and might potentially also see a confirmed betrothal between James' daughter and Edward of Westminster in return for support
