WI James II dies in 1660

(Inspired by black angel's thread)

WI the future James II had got smallpox and died in 1660, just as his younger brother Henry Stuart? Assuming that Charles still marries Catherine of Braganza as IOTL, then he would remain without legitimate children, and his heir-presumptive would be his nephew, William of Orange (who wouldn't marry Mary II, since she doesn't exist ITTL). What could be the consequences of it?

With a legitimate accession of William of Orange in 1785, rather than his OTL illegal usurpation of the Crown, there would be no Glorious Revolution and no Jacobite conflict. Meaning a more peaceful Britain over the next 60 years. Possibly an assured union of the Netherlands and Britain if William retakes control of the Netherlands in 1672.

Though I do wonder how William will go about with getting an heir; perhaps you should instead have him in mid-1665, after Mary and Anne are both born and before he converted to Catholicism. His first son dies right on time in 1667, Mary is married to William of Orange in 1677, and in 1685, Billy Dutchman and his Scotty wife legitimately ascend the English, Scottish, and Irish thrones. :D

More than it, William would marry someone and probably have kids. Then we could have a longer union of England/Scotland and Netherlands.

I wonder if without the example of James II the English would accept a Catholic monarch in case Mary and Anne still do not have surviving children. Could the descendents of Henrietta Anne Stuart have any chance of taking the throne?
