WI James II and Anne Hyde had a male son?

WI James II and Anne Hyde had a surviving son?

Inspired by Hashasheen's Jacobite thread:

IOTL James II and his first wife Anne Hyde had 8 children, but only two girls reached adulthood: the future queens Mary II and Anne. Both of them were raised as Protestants by order of Charles II.

Now, if one of the male children of James and Anne had survived (let's suppose that lucky one is James Stuart, Duke of Cambridge), would Charles still order him to be raised as a Protestant? And if he does, what would change from that? James II would still be Catholic, but now even if he marries a second wife his male heir is a Protestant, and would have precedence over any other son. Would James II still marry Mary of Modena or other Catholic? And would he be still overthrown, or the Protestants would just sit and wait for his death?

I doubt he'd remarry. Wasn't the whole point of the marriage to Mary of Modena to produce a living, male, heir, that would be raised Roman Catholic? A Protestant son means there is no point... even in OTL, everyone was prepared to tolerate James so long as he lived provided he didn't have a son, because one of his Protestant daughters would succeed him. It's possible there would be no Glorious Revolution, but all James' work would simply be undone by his Protestant successors.

Well, if he has only one male heir from Anne Hyde he might marry again, just in case his first son dies. If he has a son from this second marriage (let's call him Charles) how would the future Protestant king James III deal with the Catholic branch of his family? Or would he play like Charles II, officially Protestant but with many Catholic sympathies?
