WI: Jack Layton doesn't pass on

What if, after being buoyed to Opposition status by Canadians in 2011, Jack Layton does not pass on/never has Cancer, and lives to see the 2015 general election? Would we all be discussing the slaughter of the Tories, or something else?

I think the NDP would have done better in the 2015 election, because he was less moderate than Mulcair was, or at least he was perceived to be (more populist appeal).
I think it would be harder for Trudeau to run on the left of the NDP as a result...

Trudeau ran a very strong campaign, so he still has a shot at becoming PM.

I think Layton and Trudeau would split the vote, allowing the Conservatives to form a minority government.
