WI:Indian Point Nuclear Plant Leaks

Earlier this year it was revealed that a nuclear plant north of NYC on the Hudson, Indian Point, was leaking radiation into the surrounding water table. What if instead of leaking radiation into the water the radiation was airborne and went south? How would they deal with the threat to NYC?

It's detected immediately and the reactor is shut down and emergency procedures are initiated to contain any leaks. Power plants constantly monitor their airborne emissions whereas a leak could go unnoticed. And at the levels Indian Point released it would probably be safer to release it into the air to be dispersed than into the ground water.

Lots of lawsuits, silly panic, no real health risks. The plant is probably shut down permanently due to the public outcry. While radiation exposure definitely isn't good the dangers of exposure are seriously overblown.
