WI: Independent Bavarian Monarchy

As Bavaria is a state within the reich-before the second world war, is it possible, by any means and scenario possible, NOT including the Bavarian Commune of 1917, that Bavaria can gain its independence, YET with the monarchy still intact?

Thank you.

Unlike the commanders of the Deutsches Heer the King faces reality that the war is a lost cause at some point in early 1918 and either pulls his troops back to Bavaria effectively withdrawing from the war or actively approaches the Entente about coming to a separate peace? It won't make him very popular within the rest of the German Empire but it could bolster his support within Bavaria, especially if they get preferable treatment in terms of things like reparations, enough to see him through the post-war chaos. The Treaty of Versailles then offers a good opportunity to get their independence recognised by all the necessary powers.

So, a national-level stab-in-the-back myth?

This would cause a revolt in Franconia and possibly Swabia and would only leave Bavaria proper as a a state.

I can certainly see a Bavarian Declaration of Independence during the end of WWI as a possibility. The Wittelsbachs were always ambevilant about being part of the German Empire. If Franconia does revolt they will likely be returned to Bavaria by the Treaty of Versailles. The next question is does this butterfly the Nazis? Because if it doesn't Bavarian independance is not gonna last very long.

Or alternatively : Adolf Hitler, Chancellor of Bavaria?
Simply put he's get a job offer at the Bavarian army, and what started by pragmatic money matter end up in flaming Bavarian Nationalism :p

Hitler's Bavaria as an Italian puppet regime. I smell a timeline.

What instead, the German princes act as a group- perhaps just depose the Kaiser and sue for peace? I'm not sure if that will get you the result your seeking but they should have seen the writing on the wall. Perhaps they offer peace for chunks of Prussia?
