I read about samsung tried to buy fokker but failed. I began to wonder: If Samsung Did bought Fokker, how it will impact aerospace industry?
the 100-passenger class of airliner has been the grave of too many aerospace companies over the last two decades. At first glance it looks like a good idea "maybe we could start eating into Boeing and Airbus market by designing a 100 - 140 passenger airliner that could compete with their A320 and 737". It is actually a very bad idea, as Bombardier is learning the hard way with their C-series... I remember twenty years ago, how Avro and Fokker went into bankruptcy.
Hyundai, Hanjin and Daewoo -- have notified the South Korean Government that they will not join Samsung Aerospace Industries Ltd.
Doesn't Embraer possition itself explicitly below Boeing&Airbus offerings, passenger-size wise? How's Embraer doing?
But it did kill their attempt at an auto business.Samsung wasn't that hard-hit OTL, so maybe they pull a miracle and survive with Fokker. But most likely Fokker wouldn't be kept to survive, just its experience and technology exploited as much as possible before Samsung makes their own, fully Korean aerospace company.
Is the CSeries really failing that bad?the 100-passenger class of airliner has been the grave of too many aerospace companies over the last two decades. IIRC they had to take something like US $3 billion write-down, get Canadian $1 billion from the Quebec provincial government, and ask for another half a billion in government aid from the federal government. They have made some sales now but there are questions over whether they'll actually make any money on them or if they had to sell at cost, or perhaps even take a loss, to get the first few deals. Is the CSeries really failing that bad?
