WI: IDS Doesn't Back Iraq?

What it says on the tin. Is his moribund leadership given a jolt? Is Tony's career cut short? Does Britain even get involved in Iraq? Are the Tories blamed for '08?

I think you need to spell this out (literally).

Do you mean "WI Tory leader Ian Duncan Smith doesn't back PM Tony Blair's decision for Britain to join in the 2003 Iraq War?"

Before I opened this, I wondered how Investors Diversified Services had "backed" the government of Iraq: perhaps by arranging loans during the Iran-Iraq war.

Yes, I do mean Iain Duncan Smith.

To be honest, it would probably just hasten his demise as Tory leader. He was ousted in early November 2003, and from what I gather, the consensus against Iraq didn't settle till sometime after. Those who supported it were still defending the intervention in the 2005 election. The Conservatives were far more united on Iraq than Labour even though Blair had far more authority than IDS, because Tory MPs genuinely believed in the war, regardless of which they were whipped. Any leader that opposed it could expect a massive rebellion and for their leadership to be called into question.
