Generally, Hungary was the no vote against any sort of dynamic domestic reforms or dynamic foreign schemes by Austria-Hungary after the Ausgleich.

I think this is because they did not want to add more ethnic Slavs to the empire, and did not want to pay taxes in general.

What if the Hungarian naysaying went a little further. Could their influence have prevented the Austrian annexation of Bosnia-Hercegovina in 1908?

How could they stop the annexation, and what would happen to the territory in the absence of Austro-Hungarian annexation?

Yes the Hungarians, had they said “no”, would have stopped the annexation in its
tracks. I doubt, though, that this, in & of it-
self, would have butterflied away WWI(too
many forces were on a collision course). Still, it’s a most intriguing “What-if”!

Even delaying WW1 could have some effects on how the war goes.

Also, was Bosnia sufficiently affected by Austrian rule that it would cause effects later on?

Would this change how Yugoslavia develops?
