WI: Huge Eyjafjallajökull eruption the night before D-Day

What if Eyjafjallajökull erupted at the magnitude as it has recently, or even more forceful and ashy... in the night before D-Day.

From what I have heard the ash does not effect prop planes.
However if the ash blinded the radar all bets would be off

It won't. WWII radar works at wavelengths that won't even notice ash particles. It worked through smoke, after all.

Maybe a slightly colder autmn 1944. Marginally quicker Allied victory. If the climate shift nudges things the right way, cold, clear skies over the Ardennes.

Pretty much, its unlikely the military people would even know the eruption occured- it'd be reported in a very small corner of the newspapers and it'd be big news in Iceland but elsewhere...nothing much would happen. The US occupiers would do a little investigation into how big the eruption would be and whether Iceland is safe and then conclude all is good and life will go on.

However....if we assume a much worse eruption....early tests of jet planes are smashing failures as they become clogged up. If we want to make a cool ASB scenario we could use this as a catalyst for 'WI no jets'

Unless Goebbles prepares a speech about the ultimate WunderWaffen being tested

Which would be - what? If you have a miracle weapon that can make volcanoes erupt, why use it to create a harmless cloud-spewer at the arse end of the North Atlantic? At least blow Vesuvius and screw up Allied supply lines through Naples.

Nobody'd believe it.
