WI/HT: no/fewer non-national top-level domains

How to make it so there is no (or next to none) non-national top-level domains (.com .net .org .edu et cetera, making them all second-level domains, .com.us .net.us .org.us and so on), except for prehaps an .int (international) for multinational sites?

What would change by making this happen?

Easy - the Americans just adopt the .us domain as their default instead of just .com etc. If more countries adopt website creation in a big way earlier, then it becomes easier to differentiate. Otherwise, have something like the International Telecommunications Union establish national domains as standard, with the .int for multinational sites, or .un or something like that.

Practically nothing, except that the website address would make it more explicit in where it was hosted.
