WI Hoover's files were secured?

WI Hoover's files had been *secured* upon his 1972 death. IOTL, Nixon wanted them, but Hoover's secretary had cleared them out. They are rumoured to be in a WV coal shaft. If they were opened up, what effects would this have? There was a book published many years ago, but so heavily censored as to be useless. The "master list", similar to the Enemies List, had 130 nationally prominent people.

Supposedly Hoover's personal files were kept largely in one piece, or at least copied.

The story goes that Dick Helms of the CIA had at the offending stash before it was destroyed.

But... There are all bits of juicy and paranoid 'secret police' rumours in the existing FBI files. If Hoover had an inner set of files, as former BBC journalist Anthony Summers alleges in his Hoover bio, then it could contain all sorts of 'smoking guns'.

The mind boggles at what would be exposed.

(BTW, Summers' book is the one that alleges the mafia had incriminating evidence of Hoover's sexuality, and that they used this to blackmail the FBI head into suppressing any concerted investigations of La Cosa Nostra.)
