Wi:HMS dreadnought gets hood’d by a pre-dreadnought

So I guess as the title says what if the dreadnought gets sunk by a lucky hit from a pre-dreadnought in a similar way to the Hood for it to have the most ramifications it would have to happen before dreadnoughts catch on so there would have to be some hypothetical war that would involve naval combat close to Britain I so what series of events could lead to this possibility and what could the ramifications for naval development be?

All big gun battleships were coming either way. A lucky shot will be recognized after the Review Board goes over the evidence.

The Royal Navy has few real threats during the period you request. Say 1906 to 1912? Maybe the Russians irrationally stay in the war with Japan to 1908. A second, small squadron sails through the North Sea into a RN squadron including the Dreadnought. By a series of errors, the Russians start firing? You realistically have no possible sane opponent.

Agree on this. The Russians I don't think could stay in the war that long, they were in serious trouble. No, Japan can't conquer them, but they can fall into revolution. Offhand, I can't think of any standoffs that might have lit off between Dreadnought's commissioning and World War 1. Maybe if you have her sent as a peacekeeper during the Balkan wars, one of the Turkish pre-dreadnoughts could manage it, but it would be beyond lucky; the Turks could barely hit the ocean with their gunnery.
