Upon his release from prison in 1924 Hitler took a semi retirement in the country with his niece and half sister after resigning from party politics while in prison. At the time the NSDAP was factional and without leadership, Goebbels and Strasser were arguing for a dissociation with Hitler and a further move to the right while Lundendorff fought to become leader himself. As we all know Hitler returned and thus returned to Munich, rebuilt the party as an electoral force and went on to become Fuhrer blah blah blah. But what if Hitler had remained retired from politics? Who would become leader of the NSDAP would they move further to the left? Would they ever come to power? Could we see a Chancellor Goebbels or Strasser? Would there be a WW2?
