WI: Hitler shot on July 1, 1940

Who kills him and why?
Because that has implications, to my mind, on how the German government spins it. Especially if it's genuinely someone 'representative' of people they want an excuse to declare war on, or to discredit in the eyes of neutral countries.
More information required.
If a French soldier who lost comrades during the Fall of France and who is aggrieved at the defeat of his country does it, it's different it seems to me it could produce a different end result from if it's a Jewish Russian Communist...
Good point, if a Frenchman kills Hitler its going to a bad and hard time for France for a long time and this will affect how the rest of the world views this Germany.

On another note a lot of people here think Göring would succeed Hitler and I pretty much agree but if the Paris Plot had been carried out, Göring might have been in the reviewing stand with Hitler and he and any other high ranking Nazis who are there (Goebbels, Himmler, Heydrich, Etc.) will be taken out as well.
If Hitler and Göring are killed, who most likely takes over? The plot was orchestrated by army personal so the army would probably take over but who would be put in charge?

I didn’t get this across, but I wanted to see what would happen if nobody other than the small group that planned it knew who’d done it.

See above.

Interesting, so if some non Germans kill Hitler and get away with it and not leave any clues to who did it? I'm not sure what the Germans might do in a case like this, they could blame it on the communists, I could see the SS going that route, if the army is smart enough and quick enough, they could blame it on Himmler or Göring and use it as an excuse to overthrow the Nazis or if the SS is quick enough, they could blame it on anti-Nazi traitors in the military.

I suppose it depends on who acts quicker, my guess would be the army because they already had some plans for this scenario, I don't think the SS did so they just might go on a wild witch hunt and have things turn on them because of it.

Who would take power if it’s the army?

In his 9/1/1939 speech, Hitler said:

Should anything happen to me in the struggle then my first successor is Party Comrade Goring; should anything happen to Party Comrade Goring my next successor is Party Comrade Hess. You would then be under obligation to give to them as Fuhrer the same blind loyalty and obedience as to myself. Should anything happen to Party Comrade Hess, then by law the Senate will be called, and will choose from its midst the most worthy - that is to say the bravest - successor.

I don't know what Hitler meant by "the Senate" - possibly the Reichsrat (the "upper house" of the Weimar legislature), but no, it was abolished on 14 February 1934. He said "Sollte auch Parteigenossen Hess etwas zustossen, werde ich durch Gesetz nunmehr den Senat berufen...", so whatever it was, it was called the "Senate".

Interesting, I knew about his (Hitler) appointing Göring as his successor but not about Hess or this "Senate".

Google turns up a few passing references to a "Senat" which seems to have been intended as a leadership assembly for the NSDAP. There was to be a "Senate House" in Munich. But apparently Hitler never got around to actually naming members of this "Senat", or if he did, it there is no visible record that it ever met. Presumably, as long as he was alive, it was irrelevant.

This is after the surrender of France, and not ASB because obviously Hitler had enemies. Assume that no one knows who did it, because he gets sniped walking into a vehicle. Who would become leader of Germany, and how would this affect the war?

We'd have exactly the same situation we have now. Germany dominating continental Europe, wary of threats from Russia, and Britain maintaining an uneasy independence across the Channel. Hitler was something of an aberration, everyone knew he was manic-depressive, including most Germans.
