WI: Hitler Grows Up Impoverished?

Say his dad dies, and a combination of other PODs leave Hitler as a penniless orphan.

Does he just fade from history, and have no impact at all? Or will he still go on to impact it in some way, but not the form we expected?

Excuse me, but in how far was his station in life, say in 1913, any better than if he had grown up in an orphanage?

The psychological damages might be different.

Yes, but this is if he grew up this way, especially during childhood.

For a comparison, Stalin, from what I understand, grew up this way.

a world without Hitler will end up with something like command and conquer: red alert. Provided that Stalin still becomes the leader of the Soviet Union.

Didn't he more or less live on the streets in the years preceding the First World War?

Well, no actually. He received a hefty sum as monthly allowance. I am not sure if that was his fathers pension, or his fathers saving, but he was very far from being penniless. Hitler conjured the myth of his impoverished street roaming life for purpose of propaganda, when in reality he had enough money for, if not comfortable, then at least a tolerable living.

PS On the OP

If he truly was penniless, well it might just drive his paranoia wilder. I think he wouldn't be stable enough to make a viable election candidate. Depending on how butterflies fly, Europe might end either in something similar to WW2 or, who knows, cooler heads prevail, Germany makes good friends with US and some sort of NATO forms in the 30s? USSR would then lumber on until Stalin's death and crumble perhaps in 60s? Something like that?

I never knew, thanks for the info! Happen to have a source? :)

I think him in poverty would actually make him more mentally unstable then he already was, and if he was able to rise to power from poverty, I think that his plans might have been even more psychotic, and maybe try to install something similar to communism, and trying to make everyone equal because if he was in poverty, he would want the the poor man be equal to rich man.

He never studies art. He never goes to Vienna. When the time comes he is conscripted into the Austria - Hungarian Army where he at least has shelter and regular meals. The odds are he will be killed during World War I. Even if he does survive he will be among the countless mass of unemployed former soldiers struggling in the new Austria. If he does go into politics he would likely join Dollfuss and his Christian Social Party. The important thing is that even if he went into politics it would be in Vienna not in Munich.

Depends when it is. If his dad dies in early childhood Hitler most likely grows up sane. (or saner, his issues went beyond the intense child abuse his dad inflicted on him but they were a big part of it)

The question is does he develop his oratorical and political genius as well? He wouldn't be penniless though, unless his mom burned through his money (and she wasn't the most stable person either), but can he parlay his gifts into something?
