WI- Hitler gets Married to Maria Reiter in 1931

"Mimi" Reiter was the only known person to have been physically intimate with Hitler. She was his fiance in the late 1920's. They broke up, and Reiter got married. In 1931, she left her husband, Rudolf Hess informed her that Hitler still had an interest in her. They spent the night together at Munich (Presumably adult stuff). Hitler wanted her to be his lover, but she wanted Marriage. Worrying that it would ruin his political career, he decided to break it off.

Point of Divergence, Hitler, deciding that it could help his image, being a family man, and possibly having a child or two, would make him look appealing to the public eye. Hitler agrees to marry, and in late 1932 the two are married. Things go their natural way. In January 1933, only a few months after marriage, Hitler is appointed Chancellor. A year later, he becomes Fuhrer. Perhaps, by 1935, Hitler could possibly have a child.

How would the Pre-War Period and World War play out from 1935 with Hitler married and with possibly a child?

Sorry, messed up the title, 1932 they would be married.

I suspect that this would actually be a good thing for the world, as Hitler would have to juggle his family life and his political ambitions. There is the hope that even Hitler might slowly become less radical given a productive output for his energies.

Will Hitler still be quite as insane in OTL when he has sex on a regular basis? It's not meant to be a joke--relationships change the people who participate in them, and when you start with Hitler, there is NO WAY this could not improve the situation.

At best, he's on his honeymoon in 1932, and therefore misses his chance for good. At worst, he's going to be slightly more moderated than OTL. Neither of these sound like a bad move.

Hmm, if he's less involved maybe he lets the generals run the war instead of micro-managing as much.

That might not be such a good thing, as there's a greater chance of the Germans actually winning, or dragging out their loss for awhile.

(Guderian's memoirs include several incidents of Hitler ordering really dumb things that screwed up the Germans' chances of winning, as late as 1944-45.)

Would marrying a woman who has been divorced cause Hitler political problems?

(Among Catholic voters, for example. Apparently there was an Irish political figure from the 19th Century who either married a divorced woman or remarried after being divorced himself and that ruined his political career. Obviously Ireland and Germany are not the same country, but south Germany is Catholic, just like Ireland.)

German Catholics was/are quite different from Irish Catholics, they was much more indepentdent from Rome and a lot more modern in attitudes.

Ah.

But could it still cause him problems, even if it's not a career-ender?

Likely, but remember if people really wanted to throw smut at him, the fact that he had a affair with his niece and her suicide was a lot worse. So no I think we will still see Kanzler A. Hitler.

I think Hitler would take its course. Lets use the scenario that he has 2 children, a son born in late 1932 less than a month after the wedding, and a daughter born in mid 1934 after Hitler is the Fuhrer.

Hitler in the eyes of the Allies is a family man, proud of his heritage, and a lot more human than most others depict. Hitler would probably name his son Alois, or Adolf, and his daughter Geli, after his niece.

Alois/Adolf the child would live the luxuries of his father, believing he would one day be Fuhrer, even though Hitler would appoint someone else. He would likely befriend Goebell's son, Helmut, who was born in 1935. Geli Hitler would befriend Goebels other daughters, becoming two very close families. 1936, the Germans annex Austria, the Munich Pact, etc. 1939 the war starts, things go as usual, with Hitler seeming more human than he did IOTL. 1945, Berlin is surrounded, Alois/Adolf would be 13, Geli would be 11. The children and his wife would be ordered by Hitler to leave Berlin to Munich, or Hamburg, where they would be captured, and like the rest of Hitlers family, live in shame as adults, probably changing their last names and moving to America. Alois/Adolf would probably move to America at the age of 15/16 with his mother and sister, be drafted in 1950 at the start of the Korean War at the age of 18. He would likely live, have several children, and would likely be alive today.

I find the thought of Hitler getting married (Sorry Ms. Braun you don't count as you were 'divorced' 5 minutes later) rather implausible, Hitler only married Braun because he thought he would be perfect in God's eyes. Well done...not.

Huh? I thought it was "better late than never" considering the Russians were breaking into the city.

Hitler as it turned out didn't care much for love or for that matter relationships. Although the 'better late then never' idea probably played into it.
