WI: Hitler escapes to Japan after WWII?

What if, after the fall of Berlin, Adolf Hitler is successfully evacuated from Germany and escapes to Japan? How could he have gotten there? What kind of reception would he have had? What would his fate have likely been? Would the Japanese even let him in?

I have Sincere doubts that he will make it out of Germany and to Japan, given the circumstances.

Land transport and Air is out, so he's going by Sub, which isn't going to be easy, everything considered.

Then, Assuming he makes it, My guess is that Japan would hand him over to the Allies, in an effort to get a slightly more lenient peace treaty.

Good ol' Hanna Reitsch can get him out. Of Berlin, at least. (NOTE: I just watched parts of Downfall yesterday)

The original plan was to head off to the Bavarian Alps. I guess he could go there, then decide Europe is doomed and head off to Japan. Somehow...

It might be helpful if someone is killed in his stead, and the Russians believe him dead, as a few conspiracy theories suppose. Then have Hitler shave the mustache and pretend to be a German civilian in case of capture, smuggle him out of Germany, and probably via Sub to Japan as proposed upthread.

I don't think the Japanese would take too kindly to having to deal with a German U-Boat when it arrives, and Hitler is more of a burden than an ally to them at this point (the war in Europe effectively over). Maybe he gets imprisoned by the Japanese and "experimented" on to discover how his mind worked.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire. Come September 1945 the Japanese will simply hand him over to the Allies; they have nothing to gain by keeping him. The same goes for anyone who accompanied him.

Exactly, they have nothing to gain and everything to lose in not handing him over. What can Hitler do for Japan while in their custody? Nothing except for pissing the victorious Allies off.

Before we even ask what the result might be, we'd need an explanation of why he would be willing to leave. His own view of his place in German legend demanded that he remain for the Gotterdammerung he created. IOTL, he refused to even leave Berlin, much less Germany altogether. I think it would be a very different man than actually existed who would be willing to escape.

A very good point. I can't see him doing it either. It would go against his warped beliefs.

....well, the OP doesn't say he goes Willingly.

For all we know, he just has to get knocked out and spend the whole trip to Japan Sedated.

Well, why not? It's not like his presence or absence would extend the war much longer anyways. IIRC, serious suggestions that he evacuate weren't made until quite late, when it was clearly all up with Germany. So his loss of authority upon being kidnapped wouldn't change the time frame much. And it is virtually the only way to explain how he leaves Berlin.

As for what happens if he actually reaches Japan alive, I think he just kills himself there when the Japanese try to turn him over at the end of the war. So the diversion pretty much irons itself out.
