WI Hitler didn't suicide?

This is one I've been interested in. Would the soldiers shoot him on the spot? Arrest, trial, then shooting? He escapes and forms a Nazi goverment-in-exile in Japan? He goes to jail for life? What would this butterfly?

Wasn't there a special jet in Berlin that was there just in case Hitler wanted to escape from the besieged city?

Meh. It would have been brought down pretty quick by Allied or Soviet aircraft, and besides, he didn't have much to run to. Didn't the Sovs capture the airport at some point before the end anyway? Either way, if he didn't commit suicide, either one of his officers would 'euthanise' him or the Soviets would have the greatest trophy of all time to burn.

Don't quote me on this, but I read somewhere that the jet present was one of the new experimental models which would have certainly avoided the AA bateries present at the time.

Regardless, those jets burned fuel like bitches, and even if he did managed to escape and evade the air forces of the Allies and USSR, he'd have the full force of the intelligence services of half-a-dozen countries after him. And all that stress on a man who was already cracked to begin with...well, you can imagine.

The history channel sucks ass. All they show is monster hunting and ghost finding programs. There is no history anymore! We have no history channel!

If he'd died actually fighting in the defense of Berlin and avoided suicide as the 'cowards way out' the potentially he'd be viewed differently by some groups.

I'm sure the Soviets would present 'evidence' to the opposite and either state that they found Hitler dead having shot himself. Actually, I think there are sme neo-Nazi nutcases out there who believe the possibility you stated above. In any case, the guy was cracked mentally and physically, so he'd likely have been gunned down quickly.

I am sure that there would have been a trial of Hitler. Now I think this changes the way Nuremberg quite a lot.

In OTL putting all the alleged leaders on trial together seemed to make sense with the top guy being not available for to put on trial.

I think that with Hitler alive his trial would be separate and first.

If his mental state was as bad as seems to have been assumed it might even have been quite clever.

If he came over as totally incapable he would be a less plausable 'martyr' for weirwolves or whatever.

I wonder what might have happened in the other trials?
