What if Jerusalem became an independent city-state in 1948 like was originally planned? Would Jews and Arabs still fight over it?

What do you think it would be called?

"Mandatory Palestine" (and still under British rule, effectively a rump state from OTL's Mandatory Palestine"
"Kingdom of Jerusalem" (put some European royal who is low in the line of succession on the throne, like OTL's Greece, an advantage of this is that the name "Kingdom of Jerusalem" is equally objectionably to Jews and Muslims, and thus, would not be seen as taking a side)
"Free City of Jerusalem" (seemed like a normal naming scheme for the time)
"Hierosolymitan State" (My preference, but I'm probably biased)

Free City of Jerusalem or City State of Jerusalem seems most plausible.

And please don't create so many threads in so short time. It looks almost trolling altough these are quiet reasonable.

I'm not trolling. I'm a longtime lurker who has had these ideas for months.

Surely not but you have made quiet lot of threads only in few hours.

Yeah but they are all on interesting and plausible historical topics, it's not like I'm making threads about "I want to eat a burger" or "My dog is chasing her tail"...

Kingdom of Jerusalem would invoke a largely Christian regiem ruling over a larger region (at least Judea+Samaria+Galilee).
The Free City invokes a rather religiously neutral, city-state entity

Which is why it's a good name - neither Jews nor Muslims would like it, so neither group would be able to accuse the administrators of Jerusalem of favoritism.

You mean taking the side of European colonialism, right, since a bunch of Christian nations (more or less) putting a Christian ruling family is plenty of favoritism. Throw in the large native Christian minority there and it's obvious that's anything but neutral or good.
