WI Miguel Hidalgo attacks Mexico City in 1810?

By 1810, he had an army of 100.000 men, and outnambered the loyalists (although his troops were less disciplined than the loyalists soldiers). However, he ordered his troops to retreat. Many deserted him, and he troops were eventually defeated. But, what if he had attacked? Would he have won? And, if so, what would have happened next?

Hidalgo had between 80,000 and 100,000 men and 95 cannons, but the better trained royalists decisively defeated the insurgent army, forcing Hidalgo to flee
Allende and other insurgent leaders took military command away from Hidalgo, blaming him for their defeats. Hidalgo remained as head politically but with military command going to Allende.
A short time later, they were betrayed and captured by royalists
His body, along with the bodies of Allende, Aldama and José Mariano Jiménez were decapitated, and the heads were put on display
Now OTL Hidalgo & his Men were defeated by a Royal Army of 6,000 professional soldiers.
There were lots more than that in Mexico City, so the Defeat is almost certain.

But there are lots of POD's here in the aftermath.
Earlier reliving Hidalgo from military command, no Betrayal, different betrayal, with one of more of the 4 escaping, etc.

But, if so, would he become the supreme authority in Mexico? And what kind of government would he establish?

I think depictions of Hidalgo as a Mexican WAshington are unfortuantely unlikely. While he didn't intend to do so, he ended up at the head of army motivated by racial animus. He owuld be unable to rally most of the Mexican elite to him (native born or Peninsular), and would probably be defeated by loyalists from the coast. (Let's remember that the Church responded to HIdalgo with inquisatorial condemnations and interdictions).

Maybe Mexico's creole elite remain closer to Spain, afraid of a Mexican Haiti?

The original plan the Mexican Insurgents had leading up to September 16th was to have the Creole Officers Ignacio Allende and Juan Aldama lead the movement. When the Conspiracy at Querétaro was discovered Hidalgo panicked and initiated the revolution, proclaiming himself as supreme commander. Hidalgo was able to rally up many of the indigenous to join the movement, but he was not an able military commander (considering he was only a parish priest). After the Insurgents win at Monte de las Cruces Allende was all for going in for the kill and attacking México City but Hidalgo decided against it and the Insurgents retreat to Guadalajara. This gives the Royalists time to regroup and manage to win at Calderón Bridge, and soon after Hidalgo, Allende and Aldama are betrayed and executed...and the rest is history.

From what I've read the Insurgents could have taken México City, then after that everything is up in the air. I suggest having the Insurgent army be commanded by Allende and Aldama (as per the original plan) from the get go. I think if you keep them (Allende, Aldama and Hidalgo) alive then the revolution will be very different.
