WI: Herman Cain elected to Senate

What if Herman Cain succeeded in his first bid for the United States Senate in 2004?

I could see Cain acting as an advocate for cutting spending, while supporting TARP as an emergency measure.

Cain's colon cancer might place him out of commission for a year or two, but he would probably remain within the Senate.

He would endorse Mitt Romney, and might show up on either Romney's or Cain's VP shortlist. Cain's health might prevent him from ever being a serious contender for Vice President.

Cain would probably embrace the Tea Party, and attempt to distance himself from his vote for TARP. Undoubtedly, he would be reelected in 2010 over minimal opposition from the Democrats.

When Senator Cain announces his bid for the Presidency, however, stories of sexual harassment and a possible affair begin to surface...

Could Cain have a better chance in the 2012 primary had he remained

Herman Cain's success in the pre-primary season was destroyed by people finding out about his alleged sexual issues and his political positions. With these both out there already, I imagine he'd do worse. He also wouldn't be able to run as a government outsider.

He might have been able to reinvent himself like Jim DeMint did. Maybe Herman Cain would earn the lable "Senator Tea Party."
