In case we're unsure of which Christian is in the title, I'm talking about Christian IV's eldest son, Christian. The guy was married to Magdalene of Saxony, but was apparently rather miffed by the fact that he was denied a participation in state affairs. Since his wife had kids by her second husband, Christian was the problem, unless one of our Danish posters knows why there were no issue (like he didn't visit his wife's bed or somesuch).

Now, Frederik III (Christian's brother) is the guy who established the absolute (as well as the hereditary) monarchy in Denmark, and who eventually succeeded Christian IV. Christian Jnr was a drinker and a spendthrift, but he seems to have been a competent soldier (not sure if he'd be a Danish Gustaf Adolf/Carl X if he had the funds). Apparently died of a sudden illness while en route to a Bohemian spa (not sure if that was for health reasons - I'm guessing it was though - which kinda makes the whole suddenness of the illness questionable. I mean, if you're sick enough to go to a spa, and then you die en route from being sick, is it all that sudden?).

But what if the Prince-Elect (Christian's actual title according to his wiki article) had survived? Better still, he leaves issue (even if it is just a solitary son) by his Saxon wife. Would Denmark move along a different path? Or would it develop more or less parallel to how it did OTL?
