At the start of 1153 AD, the future Henry II of England is supposed to have braved winter storms sailing to England. What might happen if those storms ended up sinking him and his fleet? Eleanor of Aquitaine is pregnant with their first son, Stephen of Blois' eldest son, Eustace, is still alive and married to King Louis VII's sister, Constance, and Henry's brothers, Geoffrey and William, are still smarting over the Angevin succession. They could push their own claim to the English throne or fight each other over Anjou and Normandy.
In addition, Geoffrey of Anjou had once tried to abduct Eleanor of Aquitaine before she married Henry. Perhaps he might try again.
Was it ever mentioned whether or not Henry's brothers were as eager to claim the English throne as Henry was?
Any thoughts?
