WI: Hellenistic Aksum/Ethiopia?

How can there be closer contacts between the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt and Aksumite Ethiopia by the time the Romans launch their invasion of Cleopatra's Egypt? Could the remnants of the Ptolemaic Dynasty and elite flee to Ethiopia where they bring Hellenistic influences (political, cultural, philosophical, etc.)? What could the effects be on Ethiopia?

Along similar lines I undertook this project

Maybe a Ptolemaic-Axumite marriage ? Would be interesting to have such a Dynasty in Ethiopia.

Well Aksum wasn't really a major power at the time, it only became important in the first century AD in the power vaccum Dmt left after its collapse, so I doubt Cleo and her crew would flee there. The POD would have to be before Dmt collapses, and that might as well butterfly Cleopatra.

Aksum only became a major power in the 1st Century AD and considering D'mt has probably collapsed by this point, I doubt the Ptolemies would flee there - you'd need a POD prior to this.

Adding to my previous statement, a POD could be in the 3rd Century B.C. where the contact between the Ptolemies and pre-Christian Aksumite Ethiopia peaked - having Ptolemaic Egypt take more of an interest in the Tigrayan hinterland's resources could lead to Ptolemaic influences spreading from Meroe and into the Ethiopian interior. By the time Christianity comes to the region ITTL, Aksum will be much more Hellenized than IOTL.

If the Ptolemies expand along the Nile River as in @Tom_B's TL, then they might penetrate into northwestern Ethiopia and establish settlements where Hellenistic culture influences the culture that existed in the modern-day Amhara Region.

Instead of becoming assimilated and integrated into the greater Aksumite religio-political structure, could the Greco-Egyptians do the same to the Agaws of western Ethiopia and might this be replicated throughout the whole of Ethiopia?

If they establish a permanent foothold along the Nile as a springboard for expansion into Ethiopia, then it could happen and see the remaining Ptolemies flee to Ethiopia once the Romans crush the Hellenistic Egyptian Kingdom up north.
