Give it a few years, and we'll have some films for which he might've been good. As for now - we don't know.

Well they probably would be speculation as to whetever or not the joker would return in the third batman

Unless the character is killed off. It'll make for bleak viewing if he is.

Since when a character dying made it impossible for film maker to bring it back?

(Considering that it's suppose to be the first time Batman fight the Joker I guess he survive in some way)

The only sensible thing to say, for now, is that this thread wouldn't exist and that the Marketing people wouldn't be feverishly trying to figure out how to us it for the upcomming Dark Knight.

Given that apparently the character of Rachel is returning with a different actress, I am compelled to agree! :D

I would say it is fairly likely the Joker would be dying even if Ledger had not died; most of the comic-book movies kill off their villains since the average comic book has several popular villains who all have a fan base. If the Joker was in multiple movies it would risk annoying fans of the Penguin, Two-Face, the Riddler, etc.

Assuming he died in an drug over dose, if he survive, he would still be a drug addict. I don't know if he would have been a crazy drug addict like Brittney Spears or if he keept it outside the tabloids. The media seems more interested in girls on drugs...

The new Batman: Dark Knight movie would probably make him a superstar. Where who his career have gone from there?
Actually, I suspect that the film would have done modestly well had he actually made it to its opening, but now with all the publicity generated by his death, it will almost certainly be a blockbuster.
