WI: Harry Turtledove in Vietnam

I find most modern sex scenes are awkward. Sex is not necessary to a story that doesn't explore it; that's why. It's sidetracking titillation for an audience that can't pay attention.
 
I mostly ignore them, which makes most of the the "Earth's Children" books even shorter than they were (for 'Plains of Passage' I generally only read the third of the book that featured them being with other people).
 
It would depend a lot on what he did over there. Not every draftee was sent straight into combat in the jungle... like any army, ours had a big tail and smaller bite, in that there were more men involved in logistics and REMF. If he actually was sent into combat, I'd imagine if he ever became a writer, his works would be a lot different. If he was a REMF, then he might write the same stuff, but with more accuracy for those POVs of REMFs...
