WI: Harry Truman is assassinated by a Communist

What if Harry Truman, President of the United States between 1945 and 1953, was killed around 1946~1947 by a Communist? I imagine it was far easier then to approach the president than nowadays; I can't think of this as ASB-level. Truman's replacement is either Sam Rayburn or Joseph William Martin Jr., both who were Speaker of the House of Reps. Both of them I don't really know so I'm hoping an American history expert fills me up on that. Now what I want to discuss is how this affects this special era of the pre-nuclear Cold War. What would happen to the Communist movements that are taking place around Africa and Asia? Would this lead to an earlier and quicker development of the military-industrial complex?
Both comments and questions are encouraged.

The Red Scare of the 1950s would occur earlier and be much more severe. We could see mass arrests of Communists and their supporters. May even see a retaliatory nuclear attack on Moscow, if it occurs early enough for us to feel safe from a counterstrike.

There will be more anti-Communist legislation and crackdowns earlier than in OTL, but there is not going to be a war with the Soviet Union.

Of course the CPUSA will disavow the attack (almost certainly truthfully--assassination of bourgeois politicians was not the way they worked) but it won't do them much good.

According to the best non-conspiracy evidence, there WAS, in fact, a president assassinated by a Communist, at a time when the Cold War was going at least as strong as it was during Truman's era. Interestingly, this did not seem to have any long-lasting effect on either US-Soviet relations or US domestic policy toward Communists. In fact, the biggest impact has probably been that we've now had several generations of conspriacy-theorists trying to prove that the killers were NOT Communists.

I suppose the OP might be envisioning a scenario where not only is the assassin a commie, but it's known that the orders came directly from the Kremlin. Yeah, that could very well start World War III. But that is highly unlikely to happen. Both side in the CW were cool with sanctioning the murder of proxy actors working for the other guys, but there's no way they were gonna openly knock off the top dog.
