WI Hamilton kills Burr?

Title says it all. What if Alexander Hamilton killed Aaron Burr instead of Burr killing Hamilton. Who would Jefferson replace as VP? What would happen to Hamilton? Would the Federalist Party survive?

Welcome to the Board, with that out of the way be prepared to be blasted. This POD has been flogged to death by lots of posters. But me being an FER (friend of the Early Republic) will do my best to spell out and then will be corrected by others:D

Who would Jefferson replace as VP? What would happen to Hamilton?
I think Jefferson still replaces Burr with Clinton as OTL. Jefferson/Madison were already well on the way to removing Burr from the ticket because of the tricky election of 1800 where Burr almost became president instead of Jefferson. J/M consider Burr a threat to their power and to their view of America as Virginia writ large. All flip-flopping does is cause a bigger trouncing for the Federalists in 1804. The upside is that Burr might be remembered better and the recent revisionist view of Burr might be the norm (good statesmen, accomplished scholar, and not a closet monarchist)

I suspect Hamilton's legacy will be interesting. I doubt he will be put on trial for Treason like Burr OTL or be indicted as Burr was in New Jersey in OTL. Federalism might be have better cred as govt in the long term (20,30,40 yrs out) because Hamilton will be around to defend it. At the time of his death he was planning massive 11-12 volume defense of Federalism. He was just beginning to put pen to paper when was killed. I think politically he is finished. If there is some sort of Federalist admin down the road he may or may not get a job (probably not but if Federalism survives he still the biggest brain) but Hamilton was finished electorally by 1800. He may take a trip to Europe (Hamilton and Talleyrand got along splendly). I suspect as soon as the fervor dies down Hamilton will return to private practice and return to firing of essays to local paper denouncing Jefferson/Madison/Monroe's policies. An interesting debate will be the renewal of the BUS (Bank of the US) in the 1820s with Hamilton literary abilities he will mount a surprisingly strong defense and we will probably have a stronger financial system in place by the time an ACW rolls around.

Would the Federalist Party survive?

What really killed Federalism was the Hartford Convention of 1812 (or 1814) when most of the New England Federalists try to bring about seccession from the Union. Hamilton being a devout Nationalist would not allow this to happen so we way see a continued Federalist Party (likely weak and unelectable outside of NE, NY, PA) until Jackson (if he isn't butterflied, he had quite a violent life) or maybe Clay comes about and the Virginia/Mass hold on the Presidency is broken.

I don't think Hamilton killing Burr will be as devasting for Hamilton as it was for Burr. Hamilton will not hold elected office ever. Federalism will be stronger because Hamilton is alive but strongly partisan and will not have a president after Adams (maybe JQA, but I doubt it).
