So in 1989 after winning the election a well off crazy that bought a M82 shoots Bush almost a mile away killing him.

Would Dan be a good president or would he be the laughing stock of the 20th century?

Would he enter the gulf war or let Iraq do what it want's?

Also how likely is it for there to be a nation wide ban of the .50 cal rife?

I think they'd use the military term for them - anti-material rifles and put them under the same restrictions with the BATFE, (or plain old ATF as they were then), as assault rifles and other Automatic Weapons. It's not a ban, it's a reclassification so doesn't fall foul of the 2nd Amendment.

As for Quayle - there was a running joke at the time: "4 words that terrify America - Dan, I feel ill"
He was seen as mildly incompetent.

There was no assault rife ban then and it is more likely to be classified as a destructive device due to being an anti material rife than being classified as a title 2 weapon such as fully automatic weapons.

The "assault rifle" ban is a red herring as that only tagged lookalikes.
That said, destructive device or title 2, both work.

So if Dan Quayle were president he would be a joke or could he become well respected?
