WI Guns 'N Roses original Lineup doesn't split?

They would be welcomed with open arms into the jungles, adopt or maybe even father a sweet child of theirs and go on to live happily ever after in the city of paradise, all this whilst setting up a Chinese-style democracy; in the city of paradise, of course.

For this to happen egos would have to be checked at the door, a task nearly ASB with this band.

Had they managed to stay together though the last two decades and remain artistically relevant they would be approaching the legendary status of the bands that influenced them.

However without that relevence they would end up joining many of their contemporaries in the fair circuit.

In some ways breaking up at the peak adds value. All issues aside if the original line-up got back together for a reunion tour there would be sold out stadiums and tens of millions of dollars or more on the table. Not sure that could be said for Poison, Def Leppard etc today. Something to be said for burning out young rather than being relegated to the small casino/county fair circuit.

Look at the success Take That have had just in the UK. Over 2 million people will see them live this summer. Imagine the numbers if the original Guns n Roses reunited and did a full on world tour!

As Peabody-Martini said though, it would need an almost ASB event to get them all back together to work cooperatively together again.

Shame, because it would be awesome!

Def Leppard still regularly do big arena tours, at least here in the UK, but I get your point. I have a friend who went to see the new "Guns n Roses", apparently Axl Rose was 40 minutes late coming onstage, if he's that un professional on a regular basis i can see it becoming an issue between him and the rest of the band. Would Guns n Roses try to change to fit into new styles like nu metal when they kick off, or would they stay more traditional sounding like Kiss etc have done?

You would need Axl to be less of a complete douchebag, whatever else you can say about the other members of GNR, they put up with a lot of shit from Axl before things finally came to an end.

There is a reason I mentioned that this would be nearly impossible, ever heard of something called lead singers disease, its a horrible scourge. It turns otherwise respectable musicians into the equivalent of a spoiled two year old with a checking account. And the scariest part is that the more successful the band is the worse it gets.

Ego's at the door.. or Axel on proper medication.. they would need to simply tone down the drugs and alcohol to do that.. I am in 2 bands.. a (Hard rock style band and a modern Country Western styled band) and we have booted folks out of the band twice for being drunk at practice or a gig.. of course it wasnt always that way.. back in the day (god i sound old) it was sex drugs and rock-n-roll.. maturity is a good thing..

so i digress .. back to g-n-r

IF and thats a mighty big IF they could hold it together i could see the different sounds creeping into there style.. but i dont see them altering to much on what they do.. as a matter of fact i could see an actual toning down of the whole grunge movement and maybe retain a bit of the FUN flavor in uhm.. clearing throat.. Hard Rock.. might even make Metallica think they don't have to alter there sound so much as load and reload and st. anger don't suck so much too.

the death of G-N-R marked a turning point in mid level hard rock..

I could rant on about this and i just might :) ok i will.. 3 bands taht still try but can't reinvent themselves to be more then a nostalgia act..

Def Leppard died when they stopped being Def Leppard.. Hystaria.. marked the end for them..
Poison.. 2 album wonder
Motley Crue : oh how the mighty had fallen.. but Dr. feelgood was a great end point for them.
Van Halen: to david or not to David that is the question.. cry havoc and let loose the dogs of hagar..
KISS: outside of lick it up.. what? make up on .. make up off.. They were already close to a nostalgia act by 87 / 88

The 80's had just run there course.. kinda like the 70's a few bands made it out .. Deep Purple.. Ozzy .. the stones, Zep (could have and would have just because well. they were Led Zeppelin! but they did the right thing with johns death.) the eagles.. the were diverse enough to change and meld/mold with the times.. but bands like Forigner/Styx/Grand Funk/Bad Company/ and yes i am going to say it.. Alice Cooper... and others.. not so much.. they still tour.. but does anyone care at the concert if they stand and say .. hey got a new album out.. nope.. we say shut up and play your old stuff please. Few bands have the chance to move an entire music scene in a certain direction. with the death of the G-N-R there was a whole in the industry that was filled by the likes of Pearl Jam and Nirvana and god help us Creed.. actually with the lack of moment in the style and the rise of grunge which allot of the ladies didnt understand.. many folks abandoned ship and went for the southern rock sounding style of Country during the 90's..

(wait a couple more years and as country becomes more and more rock you will probably get the First Death Metal Country Western band )

So back to GNR I always said that between them and Metallica either one of those 2 were the heir to Zep as Kings of the mountain.. G-N-R screwed the pooch on that and well .. Metallica needs to resurrect Cliff ..

I shut up now.. Long live ROCK! :)

It wasn't all Axl. That said, GNR had the style that could have sustained them through the 1990's. If they could have stayed together even through the 1990's and continued to record relevant music, you could be talking about GNR as one of the legendary rock bands. Certainly if Axl and Slash could check their egos at the door, a lot could happen.

I've actually found myself wondering about something like this recently myself, specifically what would happen to Slash if he never teamed up with Axl and his crew?
