WI: Gunpowder Plot Succeeds?

Watching V for Vendetta, I wondered something. What if the Gunpowder Plot of Guy Fawkes worked? Would England end up being Catholic again? And would this somehow change history in any major way?

A very nasty anti-Catholic pogrom occurs, and we see a more radical anti-Catholic British foreign and Irish policy. We don't see a Civil War.

I attempted a timeline on this. I made a few mistakes, but I want to continue it eventually (maybe around next November?) That time period fascinates me. What stopped me from progressing is figuring out how regency works and who would be the regent for young King Charles...

No one, instead you'd have a regency for young King Henry, who's death from typhoid fever would be butterflied away. You'd also see a much shorter regency, of only six years rather than twelve.

Well what if you somehow off Charles as well and put Elizabeth on the throne?

I would rather use Charles: we know a bit more what his personality would have been like (even with radically different experiences), plus we can use Elizabeth as a reason for a heavy British intervention in the Thirty Years' War.
