WI: Governor John Silber

In 1990, Pro-life professor and future Perot running mate contender John Silber shocked the political world by winning the Democratic primary for Governor of Massachusetts. He went on to be narrowly defeated by Bill Weld in November. What if he won? Would he win a second term, or get routed in 1994?

If he wins he won't Perot's VP Candidate (Obviously). He could win in 1994, however this is all dependent on how well he does as Governor. With Governorship, he would have more legitimacy to launch his own Presidential Campaign as a Democrat in 2000, or 1996 if Clinton fails to win in 1992 because butterflies.

Just like William Weld would never win a national Republican primary, John Silber would not win a Democratic one.

I have a feeling he'd fall flat in 2000, with his personality and views on abortion. And that he'd be 74.

Going back to Mass, I have a feeling that Democrats would try to primary him, or at least cut him off.

Not saying he'd win, just that he would have a base to stand on when he launches an attempt, an attempt that will end in failure.
