WI: Gore wins New Hampshire in 2000, Florida still close

For whatever reason (more effort in that particular state, the October DUI scandal hurting Bush more, etc.), Al Gore manages to carry the state of New Hampshire on Election Night 2000, putting him over-the-top to 271 (270 after the defection of the faithless DC elector). (OTL he lost by about 1.3%, so it is plausible). However, even though its results are now effectively irrelevant, the state of Florida is still extremely close, forcing another recount.

How do things progress from here?

Maybe without the panic for the White House, Gore's camp takes the time to ask for a statewide recount. If so, the Supreme Court won't reject it and Gore wins the state by a few hundred votes.

New Mexico was also razor thin

If Gore wins NH ITTL Bush probably asks for a recount in New Mexico as well

and Gore wins the state by a few hundred votes.
Or he doesn't; I heard that some major newspaper did a private recount of all the Floridian votes iOTL and found that Bush would have won anyway.

But why would he ask for a recount when he's already won the election anyway ITTL?

Because if the election is that close, Bush is likely asking for recounts in other close states.

He was asking why Gore would request a recount in Florida if he had already clearly won based on votes from elsewhere.

It little matters; in this scenario, Bush might request recounts in Florida and elsewhere, but if Gore has won clearly in New Hampshire, it's game over. There's no potential for a 'teh election was stolen!' narrative in those circumstances.

I wrote a TL on the original Othertimelines that had Gore spending the last day of the campaign in New Hampshire. That made the difference and he wins the election popular vote and 217 to 267 in the electoral college.
