WI Gore vs. Nader in 2000

Back in 2000 the Greens party had the best chance it had ever had. People were disgusted with both major parties and wanted a change. Nader had a long history of helping reform both business and government.

The question was brought up, why wasn't Ralph Nader allowed to participate in the presidential debates? I think the republicans were for it because they figured the Greens could take away votes from the democrats while the Democrats wanted nothing to do with Nader and the Greens.

But what IF Nader had been allowed to debate Gore - or even Bush? I remember back then looking over the Greens party website and being astonished about some of their more (to me at least) wacko ideas. For example they advocated some radical economic policies like breaking up all the US Fortune 500 companies and imposing 100% income taxes on the wealthy.

I think a skillful Al Gore could have pointed out all the problems in the Greens party platform and taken alot of wind out of there sales. He instead chose to ignore them and they ended up taking some of his votes anyways.

Side note - it didnt help the Greens that Nader chose as his vp candidate a native american woman who was while being a strong leader within her own community, was a poor choice because she was in bad health and was unable to campaign.

So what do you all think? Should Gore have debated Nader? How would that have affected the vote in 2000?

Well, Nader's support would skyrocket after the debate-mostly at Gore's expense. Of course, Buchanan would want in as well.
And, Winonah LaDuke wasn't in I'll health- she was just nursing her baby. (I'd like to see Palin try that!)

Oh. I had read she was in bad health.

Anyways she didn't get out and campaign.

But then, Nader did a poor job of campaigning also. REAL candidates, both pres and VP) have carefully orchestrated schedules where every minute of the day they are out making speeches and shaking hands.
