WI: Gore '00?

I've heard someone suggest Gore would have a war in Saudi Arabia instead of Iraq, because some Saudi royal family members had connection to 9/11, but Bush respected the family too much and brushed it off. Gore on the other hand has no attachments, and if the situation is right, maybe it could happen, whether it'd be handled as badly as Iraq is questionable.

I hadn't heard that before but I can't imagine this going well at ALL. The Saudis certainly have more power and almost unlimited funds.

On the other hand, a U.S. war against Saudi Arabia could trigger an uprising against the royal family and maybe a complete cutoff of our oil supply. If the U.S. were to win such a war, we'd HAVE to stay in for a long while to try to stabilize a U.S.-certified republic and to stave off an Islamist insurrection.

Osama bin Laden would kiss Gore on the lips if he were to push the Saudis out!

I can't believe we still have people under the delusion that McCain was a moderate Republican.

Also, if Gore had won Kyoto would still never pass the Senate. A treaty which couldn't get a single vote will not suddenly become acceptable to the Senate as a group.

Under Gore there would not have been the anti-science crowd we have now. For 8 years the anti science spoke persons had the bully pulpit of the Presidency.

The climate studies that show exactly what is happening and why would not have been suppressed and much more progress towards real energy independence would have occurred.

We would be more in step with the rest of the world and probably past the debate on whether or not it was happening or not. We would have moved on to the arguments around what, if anything, can we do about it.

All in all I'm sure other crisis would have arose but not the debate over GW, the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan, 9/11, a self regulating financial market, the current jobs situation, massive bailouts, massive federal deficits and an activist Supreme Court.

Other than that ... who knows.
