We have just lost one of the great goalkeepers of all time. I'll leave it to others to argue between him and Lev Yashin. There has already been one famous (infamous?) time line about him playing against West Germany in the 1970 Quarter Final so I'll choose another POD.
What if either the accident in which he lost his sight in 1972 never occurs or he is less seriously injured?
I don't think (unfortunately) that having Banks instead of Shilton in goal for England, changes the 74 World Cup qualifiers (Shilton wasn't a bad replacement even at his then young age) but it certainly does change the career of Shilton in other ways. With a fully fit Gordon Banks, Stoke City won't sign him. Ray Clemence's England career would also be affected
What happens to them? Also how long do you see Gordon Banks playing (barring other injuries)?. Would he still be playing when Stoke had to sell to rebuild their ground?
