In 1598 the last Rurikid Tsar, Feodor I, died. This led to what is know in Russia as the Time of Trouble, lasting from 1598 to 1613. It had it all; starvation, wars of succesion and a Polish invasion. In the end it led to the fall of the short lived Godunov dynasty and the establishment of the Romanov dynasty.
The question is, how could the Godunov's maintain their hold of the thrown? Boris Godunov wasn't a bad administrator, he was just placed in a bad situation at a terrible time. How can that be changed?
