WI: Giuliani/Huckabee vs Clinton/Beebe 2008?

Ah. I see. I doubt that that would be Hillary's pick, but if she wants to remind people of Bill, I guess she could. Anyway, in '08, she wins, hands down.

I think this may be possible if Al Gore won in 2000 and 9/11 still happened. Even then Giuliani's social issue positions make his winning the nomination difficult. Even had McCain not run having Giuliani win in 2008 is hard to see happening.

But in 2004 he'd have a much stronger halo effect after the attacks may propel him forward past the constraints that would ordinarily keep him from being nominated.

He might pick Huckabee as his running mate-after all he'd have to pick someone from that wing of the party.

Giuliani/Huckabee might defeat Gore/Lieberman.

At Gore's convention Obama might not speak-which more or less removes him from the running in 2008. In turn that means Hillary Clinton wins the nomination.

The remaining question is why Clinton would have picked Beebe.

As to the end result? Since the financial crisis happens on Giuliani's watch he loses. Gore's victory in 2000 probably wouldn't butterfly that outcome.

Both are New York/Arkansas vs New York/Arkansas. What if the 2 tickets duked it out in 2008?
Mike Beebe would have only been Governor for one year and him accepting Hillary Clinton's offer would be seen as "jumping ship" for a higher office. The Arkansas vice presidential candidate she was considering was retired General Wesley Clark, who would probably work better. Rudy Giuliani selecting Mike Huckabee is a bad move. Huckabee is moderate in economic wise, but a conservative socially. He'll bring the South and the Christian right into play, but there will be backlash from conservatives over his economic stance (where people in OTL called him a RINO) and him being part of the Christian right turns off independents. Giuliani would probably select the more conservative Rick Perry as his Vice Presidential nominee. Giuliani, on the other hand used the September 11th Terrorist Attacks as the focal point of his campaign, which will lead to his eventual downfall when people see he was exploiting the tragedy for press time and media attention. Conservatives would not like Giuliani that much, because of how liberal he is on social issues, such as abortion (he is pro-choice). End Result: Clinton/Clark win big over Giuliani/Huckabee, because of all that was described and the economic recession and financial collapse.
