WI: Germany treats post-WWII displaced ethnic Germans as Arabs treated Palestinians.

I understand this smacks of ASB, but let's assume that post-WWII Germany handles displaced Ethnic Germans from Eastern Europe the same way Arabs treated Palestinian refugees post-1948. Instead of integration of DPs, Germany resettles them at refugee camps along the border, refuses to grant them residential permits, leaves UN to care for them and actively support any revanchist movement formenting within this group. What's next?

Can't be pleasant.

I could imagine the DPs could be as troublesome to the German gov'ts as the Palestinians are to their Arab hosts.

Some kind of analogue to Black September coming up?

I don't think the Allies would have allowed this kind of thing, but it would most likely lead to a lot of the heading for the GDR (where they would be treated like everyone else). No way the Soviets will play along with this.

Without the Vertriebenenstimmen, the CDU will have a slightly weaker position, Of course, the possibility of WWIII also rises drastically, so there goes an early Ostpolitik.

If we survive the 50s and early 60s, the situation should stabilise. If the ASBs keep enforcing this separation, it is likely to ossify into a bureaucratic nightmare with not a whole lot of real significance. Remember the Warsaw Pact is not greatly impressed by outside humanitarian concerns and NATO doesn't need a disaffected recruitment reservoir - they have nukes.

Somewhat trollish. In any case not possible: West Germany was not sovereign until 1949 and the Allies would not look kindly at such behavior. East Germany would, for obvious reasons also not do such a thing.

The roles are reversed in this instance, Germany being the underdog unlike the Arabs. How this reversal would affect the reaction of Germanys neighbours is hard for me to say. Perhaps they would give Germany political concessions which would increase its power in order to solve the long running problem. Or perhaps the Occupiers would force Germany to do as they wanted not what Germany wanted. I'd go for the latter, but the possibility exists for the former to occur.

I plead complete ignorance, but how many DPs ended in GDR? Was it significant number or just several unlucky individuals?

Not likely. You need a weak host to try to pull Black September

In such an extreme scenario. several western countries which wanted European immigrants in the aftermath of WW2 might arrange for them to settle in their respective nations.

Even after what the Germans had done in the 1938's in an effort to "unite all Germans in one state"
