WI Germany Split up after WWI, While Austria - Hungary just lost territory.

What if instead of Austria - Hungary disbanding, Germany disbands into smaller states. Of course of A - H would lose some territory still, but stays united.

A - H's losses: Bosnia, bits of land to Ukraine and Romania, Tirol to Italy, and a bit of land to Serbia.
Germany successor states: Bavaria, Prussia, Saxony, German Rhine

What happens now?

i'd think better successor states for Germany would be
Saxony, Württemberg, Bavaria, Brunswick, Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Oldenburg, Mecklenburg and Hanover.

If Austria-Hungary remains united then likely the Habsburgs remain on the throne, that therefore would likely avoid a Fascist Austria, maybe an Authoritarian Austria, but not a Fascist/Totalitarian Austria. It would also mean that likely Austria would dominate the Southern German States.

The Soviet Union becomes the over-eclipsing force that dominates Europe leading to WWII. But I can see Bavaria becoming the strongest German state, with a restored Southern German Confederation that includes Austria, Wuerttemberg, Hesse and Saarland...

Isn't Bavaria the Catholic part of Germany, if it becomes dominant in former Germany, then The Protestant Germans may be in trouble.

Well first there would likely be more states then just the ones mentioned. Likely Germany would be divided into Bavaria, Württemberg, some form of a Rhenish Kingdom, Hannover, Hesse, Saxony, and some bizarre Brandenburg State Thing. The Hollenzollern Male Line would be relegated to rule Prussia as a Baltic Duchy, and Brandenburg would get some minor Hollenzollern or someone married to one of Wilhelm II's daughters. Obviously elsewhere old royal families would be restored, and Hannover would likely effectively be a proxy of Great Britain, the Rhenish Kingdom a proxy of France or possibly Holland, and Bavaria and Württemberg tied heavily to Austria.
