WI: German conquest of England and Normandy between 1135-1140

What if the Henry V, the Holy Roman Emperor survives and sires a son with Empress Matilda before the anarchy, then after the death of Henry I of England, we would now have a 1066 like situation now that William Clito, Stephen of Blois and Henry V of Germany war for the crown of England..

If the Holy Roman Empire gains Normandy and England would France treat it as a threat?

Yes, assuming that something similar to the White Ship still happens which is probably a little out there.

In such a circumstance, however, it's likely that Henry V decides to create an alliance with on of the other claimants (probably the Count of Flanders as his claim is weaker) rather than take the throne himself which would be opposed by the nobles of England. They would probably want Stephen (as OTL), but this could present an oppurtunity for France to take Normandy if war breaks out.

Similarly if Henry V has enough children already he could move to have his second son declared the heir to the throne, and perhaps have he and his mother move back the London to serve as King and Regent (depending on age). The Lords would probably be happier with a weak king than a foreign one.

HRE Henry V (Salian dynasty) gaining England, would be like the OTL conquest of the kingdom of Sicily by HRE Henry VI (von Hohenstaufen). The Holy Roman Empire wouldn't gain England, but the at that moment ruling emperor and his dynasty would gain England.

Especially if Henry and Matilda would have had a son, then the HRE would have been a good powerbase to support his claim.
Though for some Stephen and William could look more appealing.

It would most likely end up like every other invasion of Brition. Even if they win they would be assimilated into the native populace given long enough. The language would favor more of the Germanic parts, and who knows maybe the reformation when it hits me may actually have protestantism and not the Catholic church of England.

Yes, but Kasumigenx likes Personal Unions...

Not exactly because I like Personal Unions, I like a Personal union that causes succession crisis that would make an interesting scenario, but I admit personal unions create cool Coat of Arms.

This thread sort of explores the idea of a Salian dynasty England, but its . . . well, in need of work, I think.
If Eleanor still becomes the heiress of Aquitaine would the Kings of France make it sure that she does not marry into the Salian(either if the Groom is the HRE emperor or not) Dynasty...perhaps they would marry her to someone safe if she still divorces the King of France because if she marries to the Salian Dynasty it would be a threat to France.

Louis may not be able to do much about it, just like OTL he failed to stop her from marrying Henry of Anjou.

William Clito stands out as the French candidate.

Although the thread brings him back to life as of 1135, it's not clear whether he still rules Flanders. If successful in claiming the English throne with French help, he will be allowed to retain Flanders or Normandy, but not both.
