Ah. which utter waste of money that was.

Anyways, the Hallstein doctrine was only about not recognizing the GDR. It was not about the FRG claiming that land. Legally, after all the FRG was a provisorium for until reunification, and as that both de facto and legalyl-officially only consisted of the ten western states.

And besides that East-West conflict is what NATO was founded for. Now theres no point in being dragged into other conflicts.

I agree with Xavier here. Even if by some miracle Georgia was a NATO member at this time, there would still be no military conflict between NATO and Russia.

NATO is not going to engage in a war with Russia because the risks are to high and there is nothing to be gained. Russia is not going to go to war with NATO for those same reasons. All Russia can do is grab land that will take years to pacify and waste even more lives, resources, and credibility on the global stage.

Modern day conquests like those of the past are not realistic anymore.

They never, ever would have attacked NATO member Georgia in 08/2008 for one or more of these reasons;

c) Western forces would have been a de facto peace keeping force. If we buy the Russian/commonly accepted version, South-Ossetia where minding their own buisness when Georgia attacked. Which wouldn't have happened if they where to attack trough a massive NATO army.

I don't get how that doesn't imply that they saw DDR wasn't part of the Future-Grand-Unified-Germany.

Russia might be a little more careful about incursions into Georgia proper, and the west might make a lot more noise, but even if Georgia managed to get into NATO with the South Ossetia/Abkazia issues, it wouldn't be able to march into South Ossetia without Russian intervention, and no one is going to start WWIII over this.
