WI: George Wallace seeks nomination in the mainstream parties?

So what would happen should George Wallace try to get the nomination for President in either the Republican or Democratic Party? What are his chances in either party, and if he got the nomination how bad will he do in the general election?

Um, are you talking about a different George Wallace than the Governor of Alabama? Because he did seek the nomination in 1964, 1972, and 1976 as a Democrat.

He sought the Democratic nomination in 1964, 1972, and 1976. He didn't do well in 1964 or 1976, but in 1972 was building momentum before he got gunned down by a failed assassin.

Maybe if Nixon wins in 1960, and civil rights legislation is passed under his administration, Wallace could win the nomination due to his pro-segregation stands.

I had no prior knowledge of this.

Generally I'm refering to his '68 run though.

Do you mean the Democratic or the Republican? (Not that it matters, because he couldn't win either. He might get more votes than any other single Democratic candidate in the primaries in a divided field, but that is not the same as getting a majority, and he would be completely unacceptable to supporters of the other candidates. And outside the South, Nixon is not going to be seriously challenged in the GOP primaries.)
