So I was scrounging through American History USA's Campaign Trail Hall of Fame and I found this.
It seems as though Nixon gets smashed on the, yaknow, treason thing, and Humphrey isn't strong enough to take advantage of it--instead Wallace sweeps in and 'wins' with these results:

George Wallace 240 26,144,116 35.41
Hubert H. Humphrey 237 24,849,340 33.65
Richard Nixon 61 22,844,259 30.94
What would Congress do then? Would the states stick with what their constituents decided and vote for George Wallace? Or would he be 'stolen' from? Would that be enough for some really pissed off Southerners to start a serious Wallace movement?

This has more detail on his campaign ^
