There is a history theory that Bush II was undone by the people around him. The idea being that many of the bad or controversial decisions of his administration were actually the result of Cheney, Rumsfeld, Karl Rove, etc; that he was unduly influenced by them or they went ahead and committed policy of their own volition. The sort of shared presidency of hegemonic influence that Ford reported Cheney and Rumsfeld tried to arrange in the 1970s. With that in mind, what if George W. Bush had been elected president in 2000 without those people in his administration?
