Politically this wouldn't change much. He might take more active role during WW2. India too would still goes as independent nation.

A good point about Wallis Simpson. The crisis with Edward VIII did damage the monarchy’s reputation a fair bit at the time. This would be somewhat lessened if he was still the Prince of Wales. Granted, it still would be a scandal and I don’t think it was a fatal problem for the future of the Monarchy in OTL. So probably not that great a difference.
