WI:George Of Hanover Never Gets BritishThrone

As it says on the tin. What would be the effects? What if?

Well I'm actually working on a TL about this very subject. However I'm not sure how you mean this. Do you mean Anne's son William survives and inherits the throne or do you mean a Jacobite Restoration? Or something else entirely?

On what circumstances?
(James II never getting out of power, having George dieing before succeding, having Anne's son surviving childhood, etc)

Edit:

Ninja'd by less than a minute! :p

In my I-must-keep-going-with-this timeline (link in my signature), I have William, Duke of Gloucester, survive and marry Ulrika Eleanora of Sweden. Directly, this leads to Sweden winning the Great Northern War, meaning Russia never becomes as powerful in early modern times as it did OTL. It doesn't lead to a different Act of Union, but does butterfly away many of the Wars fought in the 1700s, such as the Seven Year's War.

Well if wer'e pitching ideas:D. OK the TL I'm working on has a planned Jacobite coup which occurs after Annes death, thus restoring the House of Stuart and James III & VIII to their rightful throne. With this restoration, the crown is strengthened because the reigning monarch knows British politics and is not dependent on favorites. Not to mention the Whigs are cut out of government.

Depends on the scenario.

If the Stuarts stay in power, say, James II never converts to Catholicism and stays Protestant, then butterflies would be huge. James III, OTL's James Francis Edward Stuart, would rule England from maybe 1701-1766, though Butterflies could change the deaths of both James II and his son. Not sure how this would effect Britain or the world exactly, though it is a very interesting scenario.

If Queen Anne is deposed by the Jacobites, butterflies will still be big, but not as big. Though how the Jacobites would be able to accomplish such a massive undertaking is beyond me. They could be succsesfull for like a few days, then Anne would be restored or something.

If George I dies before ascending to the throne, then the crown would probably go to his son, OTL's George II, who IITL would be George I. Not sure of the butterflies here. Anyone else who could have the throne?

That somes it up. What about Henriette Anne's line? That would give the throne to the house of Savoy. Really unrealistic but cool:D.

I prefer Anne's brother in law has a son. ;)

Too vague of a WI, as list of effects differs and depends on who ascends the throne after Anne dies? The effects of Sophia living until 1720 and reigning as Queen of Great Britain 1714-1720 and being succeeded by her grandson who becomes King George I seven years before becoming George II in OTL will have different butterflies then if one of Anne's children lives to adulthood, or if one of the people between Anne & Sophia in the line of succession were not passed over, or if James Francis Edward, becomes King as James III. Unless you answer this question this thread will be little more than a jumble of competing WI scenarios.
