WI: George Bush Sr. dies in WWII

I don't know Prescott Bush well but I imagine it affects him. Whether or not it'd pull him out of or push him deeper into politics I have no idea.

That said, a lot of people will focus on issues about the presidency, but it goes deeper. Bush was RNC Chairman, a CIA Director, and a Chinese Ambassador in the '70's and there'll be profound effects there, especially on the first one - a different chairman could frame Nixon's scandals better or worse, stand by him shorter or longer.

Obviously, Reagan picks a different running mate, and we likely have a different president from 1989 to 1993, and from 2001 until 2009, but everyone's gonna say that

Howard Baker was seen George HW Bush competiter for the moderate vote in 1980. Maybe he gets Bush's votes and wins in Iowa. He then would be Reagan's running mate and president from 1989 - 1993.

Not to mention, Bush as RNC Chairman was the guy to formally ask Nixon to resign. A different man might approached that differently, and Nixon was temperamental. Maybe the end of the Nixon administration goes differently.

He was not the only one to ask Nixon to resign. There was delegation of Republican Congressional leaders. I don't think a different GOP chair changes things too much. I will admit that open to persuasion on this issue.

OK I could see a diehard Nixon loyalist chair going into the oval office and convincing Nixon to stick to his guns could have an effect.
