WI George bush died in 9/11

for whatever reason, bush goes to the twin towers on 9/11 2001 and gets killed in the attacks.
How would america respond?
What would be the ramifications on history?

There was a plane heading towards the White House that the passengers purposefully brought down. Bush dying from that is a more realistic way than him just being in the twin towers

I think the Pentagon plane was supposed to hit the White House. Flight 93 was supposed to hit the Capitol.

The hijackers couldn't identify the White House from the air and chose a different target.

I thought this was WI Bush Did 9/11? when I first read the tile and was expecting a flame war.

But anyways...yeah Cheney isn’t going to be getting too many accolades. I wouldn’t be shocked if he lost in 2004-there’ll be assassination sympathy but after three years it won’t be as big as in the case of JFK. Plus Cheney alienates the base in many ways (for instance he backed same-sex marriage before many Democrats due to having a lesbian daughter).

You would have been seeing, all across America, Arab-Americans(& anyone who just
looked “wrong”)attacked, beaten up, in more than a few cases strung up. Mosques & places of business known to be owned by
Arab-Americans would have been burned to the ground. The cry would have gone up to
nuke- or @ the very least, invade- an Arab country(if not Iraq than Iran). In other words, Bush being killed by the terrorists on
9/11 would have made a lot of Americans
very, VERY angry(it would have been seen as
an assault on the USA itself)- & whenever that happens, look out!

Chainy might go to war with Iran alongside of, or instead of Iraq (I assume part of the push for Iraq was unfinished business in the eyes of bush)

RIP First, Fourth, Fifth and Eight Amendments. President Cheney would be given a blank check to vigorously prosecute a war on terror. As said above a change to Bush's itinerary and having him be in the White House when a plane hits it would kill him and destroy an iconic American symbol. That imagery alone would be unforgettable and harden American resolve. The political culture would be even nastier and more toxic towards those who question or oppose this version's PATRIOT Act and other measures.

In short, it's not a world I would want to even visit.

If the president died . It could have been Andrew Jackson.. He immediately becomes a martyr .

God help anyone who is the way of us revenge at that point. I mean 9/11 on steroids..

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if a nuke or 2 was used.

Give us bin laden . We need to think on it.. Glass. Here he is..

We hate everyone.. Glass. Okay.. We are peaceful .

The us would be out for blood

At home . Conservatism and isolationism would be the total order of the day

The whack job terrorists would have won by creating the reaction that would make the USA look whack

I mean the USA was totally up in arms for 9/11.toss in the white house and or congress.. That my friend is the start of a very bad time line

A 9/11 in which not only the President but the entire main residence of the White House is annihilated is one that will be much more severe than the one we experienced. In OTL it was bad enough to see two symbols of America brought down and the Pentagon smoldering, but if the President had been killed I think that would have flipped the entire country on its head for at least the next 30 years.

Whether or not someone supported Bush wouldn't have mattered, Bush being killed would have been a strike at the very fabric of America's soul, and we would have lost our damn minds seeking retribution for it. Most were gung-ho for just about any kind of action in the aftermath of OTL, but we would be seeking oceans of blood in such a timeline. The support you would see going toward Cheney would have made what LBJ received look like an unenthusiastic clap.

America would have gone rabid. American flags would be all over everything, enlistments would skyrocket even more so than they did OTL. With Cheney in office and such a world around him, we'd probably see the mad man theory made real if nations became uncooperative.

Cheney and Condi were both in the White House on 9/11. So if Bush (in this timeline is also in the white house), and Cheney are killed, that would leave Dennis Hastert as President wouldn't it? Jesus, when his crimes come out at some point in the aftermath...

There is a ultra fast evacuation plan from the surface structure of the White House. First stop is the bomb shelter complex below, & then via lower tunnel to the metro system. (IIRC upper tunnel is automotive and puts you on the adjacent streets.) Any time a aircraft wanders off the DC regional flight paths the POTUS evac plan is alerted, & if the aircraft is heading in the direction of the White house the evac. kicks in. I suspect from the residence or offices to the shelter is 2-3 minutes. Certainly under five minutes.

Given how far off course the DC destined planes were its likely Bush would have been well on his way to National Airport, Dulles, Andrews AFB, or alternate sites to meet either Marine One Or Air Force One. Several rehearsed automotive routes are also planned from DC to nearby military bases. I don't know if a rail car is still maintained for surface transport. In the 1940s a subway connection between the White House and the primary train station was built. I don't know if that connection has been maintained.

There was an attempt on Bush's life while he was in Florida before 9/11. If that worked, than he would die at the hands of his Al Qaeda assassins and be counted amongst the fallen on 9/11. The scariest thing about this, is the idea of a Cheney presidency.
